PHOTO CONTEST

photo contest clupnowMany are unaware that the impacts of the tragedies caused by recent typhoons that hit the country, as well as the issue on the Torre de Manila construction that ruins the sight line of the Rizal Monument in Manila, are results of improper land use planning in the Philippines. The effect of improper land use planning was most evident when Typhoon Yolanda, the strongest typhoon that hit the Philippines, claimed thousands of lives, displaced families and communities, and disrupted business and economic activities.

CLUP NOW

Using the theme “A Safer Future for All of Us” the photo contest will be highlighting effects of proper and improper use of lands, impacts of disasters and climate change, food security, sustainability, and the need for the National Land Use Act.

The Campaign for Land Use Policy Now (CLUP Now!) aims to raise…

Anti-Pork protests continue- #PORKTOBERFEST – A Street Party Protest Against the Pork Barrel System

Kung hindi ako nagkakamali, ito ay ‘organized’ by the #ScrapPork Network. Sama na! (Extracted from FB events)

#PORKTOBERFEST – A Street Party Protest Against the Pork Barrel System
October 25, 2013
7:00 pm
T.Morato, Quezon City

porktoberfest

So you go out on a payday Friday night. You check your payslip and you see your withholding tax – there goes part of your hard-earned money. You pay for parking with 12% EVAT. You buy food and drinks with friends and you pay your bill – with 12% EVAT. The next morning you read the papers, you see how the taxes you paid last night was misused by people you thought you could trust. Dammit.

On October 25, a Friday night, you probably will go out again. Pay for parking, pay for gas, and pay for your weekly dose of Friday night food and drinks – with all those you pay 12% EVAT. BUT YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THE DECEIT AND THIEVERY. You want to tell your government that what you will be paying on the night of October 25 should be properly used and should not go to the pockets of those suckers. YOU WILL DO THIS AT THE #PORKTOBERFEST!

BE IN THE KNOW. BE AWARE. BECAUSE YOU OWE IT TO YOUR COUNTRY. Because you can have fun while you learn about your country’s issues and while you become part of the solution to your country’s problems.

WE DEMAND:

1) The ABOLITION of the Pork Barrel System.
2) A FULL ACCOUNTING of ALL pork barrel funds used.
3) An IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATION and the PROSECUTION OF ALL INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED in the misuse of pork barrel funds.

WE SUPPORT THE PASSING OF THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT.

There will be NO CENTRAL STAGE AND SPEECHES. Bars and restaurants in the area are invited to set up tables and chairs/ booths and kiosks and even small platforms/stages along the sidewalk of Morato to provide entertainment AGAINST THE PORK BARREL. Street performers/artists (flashmobs, singers, poetry readers, etc.) are also invited to perform along the street.

Express yourself on our Freedom Wall where you can write your protests against the pork barrel system!

Bring your noisemakers because at 12 midnight we will make noise that will echo throughout this country TO SHOW THIS GOVERNMENT THAT WE ARE THE BOSS AND WE WANT THE PORK BARREL SYSTEM SCRAPPED!!!

Show the government that you want cleaning up! WEAR WHITE! COME AND SHOW YOUR GOVERNMENT THAT YOU ARE THE BOSS!

Anti-Pork protests continue-The Halloween Ride!

Anti-Pork protests continue

RIDE TO ABOLISH ALL PORK – The Halloween Ride!

RIDE TO ABOLISH ALL PORK The Halloween Ride

Did you know mga ka-riders?

(This is a free initiative of concerned individual riders. BUT WE ARE CALLING ALL CLUBS, FEDERATIONS, ALLIANCES AND ORGANIZATION TO SUPPORT THE INITIATIVE)
Source: Pls confirm your attendance @https://www.facebook.com/events/406323156160085/

“One is too small a number to achieve greatness.” –John C. Maxwell

“For the third time, Human Rights Online Philippines or HRonlinePH.com will give recognition to human rights defenders’ efforts to promote, assert and defend human rights by maximizing online platforms. This year the event will celebrate the assertion for freedom of expression and opinion online and offline with the theme “Internet Freedom… our rights, our choice, our voice.”

“… we have seen a growing movement of people around the world who are advocating for change – for justice, equality, accountability of the powerful and respect for human rights. The Internet has often played key a role in such movements by enabling people to connect and exchange information instantly and by creating a sense of solidarity,” said UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression, Frank La Rue, when presenting his annual report to the UN General Assembly.

The Special Rapporteur reminded States that, as a general rule, they must ensure that everyone enjoys his or her right to freedom of opinion and expression by maintaining free flow of information on the Internet, and ensuring that the Internet is available, accessible and affordable to all. However, La Rue recognized that freedom of expression can be restricted in very exceptional cases in line with international human rights instruments.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression Frank la Rue clarified that there is no need to introduce new standards regulating the freedom of expression on the Internet as all standards already exist, in particular in the article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

“The successful online campaign against the unconstitutional RA10175 or the Anti-Cybercrime Act of 2012 that temporarily stopped its actual implementation and the very recent August 26 #MillionPeopleMarch in Luneta, initiated online by netizens against the PDAF scam revealed the undeniable capacity of the Filipino people to assert its rights and the use of ONLINE MEDIA as a powerful tool. The power of the people that was manifested both online and offline in both instances had proven the world how true that Philippines indeed is the social networking capital of the world. Alongside, it exposes that the recurring and continuing threat of suppression of freedom of expression also holds true, thus the need to be on guard, more vigilant and assertive in defending for these freedoms.”

Inspire. Mobilize.”

Ang karapatang pantao ay parehas – online man o offline. Back to basic tayo, ang social networking ay katulad ng anumang pagkilos ng mamamayan -online man o offline kailangan natin ng teamwork.
